INDO CHINA STUDENTS PROGRAMME - ASIAN YOUNG LEADERS' CONVENTION

4TH FEBRUARY TO 10TH FEBRUARY 2009

The Asian Young Leaders‘ Convention (AYLC) was held in Tong Xiang, China between  February 4th and February 10th 2009. It was jointly organized by the Jurong Junior College and Quishi Secondary School. A team of five student leaders: Malvika Prasad, Shaily Saluja, Aashna Jaggi, Dhruv Goel and Manbir Duggal along with a faculty member, Mrs. Rachna Shukla represented DPS International at the Convention. The programme was attended by 450 students (from 35 different schools) from China, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam and India. The theme for AYLC 2009 was “Youth’s Perspective in Global Leadership” and the forum focused on leadership issues related to politics, entrepreneurship and culture.

The objective of the Convention was to encourage networking among young students from diverse backgrounds and provide them with an opportunity to learn about developments in leadership. The experiential learning camps especially designed by the Jurong Junior College highlighted character development and leadership.

Cultural immersion sessions were held to break the ice between the participants to develop a sense of appreciation for different cultures.

The three-day forum was followed by the closing ceremony and an award presentation. An educational tour of the historic and economic milestones of Tong Xiang and Shanghai on the last two days provided great cultural exposure to our students. The Convention was an immensely enriching experience for the students.
